THE QUARTERLY REPORT is a physical publication that is sent in the mail or purchased in your favorite bookstore or magazine shop. ISSUE NO. 3 is 96 pages, full color, and 8½ x 10½ inches. Each issue is slightly smaller than the previous in terms of size so that they can eventually stack like a pyramid.
THE QUARTERLY REPORT is a report of the things creative people think about when they are not doing their work. In ISSUE NO. 3, artist and educator Jon Rubin explores several premises for Art Schools; painter Jenny Sharaf reports on noma’s fermentation lab in Copenhagen; writer Andrew Leland meditates on Colossal Cave Adventure, an early choose your own adventure video game from the 90s; filmmaker and visual artist Cauleen Smith thinks about the TV series Columbo and its various intersections with Los Angeles of the 70s; artist Davina Semo considers her first true Garden and the battle with wildness and control that permeates Los Angeles; cinematographer Alonso Luján presents his water colors that he creates in the liminal spaces of airports, cafes and sets, in between his shoots; visual artist Michelle Blade offers a brief meditation on lost Altadena; and, as part of our Where it Comes From column, our reporter at large, Brett MacFadden, considers the maker’s mark in concrete sidewalks around Oakland. Something for everyone!
